Failure symptoms

In general, NAND Flash EEPROMs can fail in many different ways and cause all kinds of failure symptoms.

Virtually any kind of weird TV behavior from being totally dead to randomly shutting down to being slow or apps failing etc can be attributed to a defective EEPROM.

Unfortunately many if not all such failure symptoms can also be caused by other failures.

So there is no one simple and definite way to tell if a bad EEPROM is reason of failure in almost any TV, nor there is an easy and certain way to test an EEPROM.

When in doubt we always test EEPROMs in a good working board and most of the time the easiest way to rule out an EEPROM for a user in doubt is to just replace it woth a brand new one from reliable source.

All that said, there are a few common issues that Vizio M550SV develops due to bad U12:

  • TV starting up and responding very very slow to commands - be it from remote or buttons, until it eventually hangs down and restarts; if left on an HDMI input or TV, however, it may play for quite some time;
  • TV hanging on the VIZIO splash logo screen; this is not necessarily due to bad EEPROM, but it is known to have been caused by bad EEPROMs and bad copies in particular.

Repair service offered: Yes. WARRANTY CONDITIONS

Coppell TV Repair LLC does not guarantee that this product is all that is needed to resolve the problems with your TV.

Most of the repair kits we offer are based on first hand experience servicing boards at our repair facility.

Over time they may get expanded with our own experience or information from manufacturer service bulletins, customer feedback etc.

Yet failure can be unique and there can not be guarantee that what has worked one, ten or even hundred times will also work the next one.

Just as important, every repair involves about equal portion of quality of parts and quality of worksmanship and as we have no control over the worksmanship quality unless we are the ones performing it we would be unwise to provide warranty of the products utilized by that worksmanship.

As such, no warranty is offered on this product once the components in it are soldered on a board.

If you would like warranty please see if a REPAIR SERVICE is offered instead of a kit. Unless otherwise noted all our repair services do come with a standard warranty.

PRODUCT DISCLAIMER

Coppell TV Repair LLC is not aware of an easy and reliable way available to end users that will allow them to identify beyond doubt a defective or corrupt memory IC.

We describe failure symptoms that we have seen when the firmware IC was corrupted, but those symptoms do not directly map to defective memory IC and the other way around - an EEPROM can be deffective or corrupt and there may be other symptoms that are not listed here.

It is up to the buyer's technical skills, equipment and willingness to assume the risk for the outcome of their repair service effort when purchasing and using this product!

By placing an order customers agree to assume that risk and hold Coppell TV Repair LLC free of accusations and charges related to the outcome of their repair except in regards to the correct presentation of the product and its delivery.

Coppell TV Repair LLC guarantees that the offered memory is new, tested and functional to the best of company's knowledge.

To anyone who does not have the skill and equipment needed to diagnose the IC in their own board we strongly recommend using a purchase/trade-in or a repair service, which we may (and should) be offering for the main board.
